What’s not to love about May? It’s warming up, school’s out, the NBA playoffs are in full swing. On top of that May is also Asian Pacific American Heritage Month. WOOT.
Los Angeles celebrates APA month with the always cool Los Angeles Asian Pacific Film Festival showcasing films by Asian international and Asian American filmmakers throughout the city. This year, our very own Art Theatre of Long Beach is hosting the closing weekend of the festival May 18-20th. You can probably walk there from home. Culture in our backyard, YES!
Among the films screening, I am especially excited for Davy Chou’s documentary Golden Slumbers. The film is a search for the illustrious Golden Age of Khmer cinema now lost in the wake of Pol Pot’s destruction of Cambodia’s rich artistic legacy. Collecting the stories of the few remaining survivors of this Golden Age, this film is sure to become a historical gem.
History. Culture. Film. I can walk there. Yes please. Feed your creativity! See you at the movies!
Sunday, May 20th // 4:30 pm // Art Theatre of Long Beach
